Mayra

Mayra lives in a small rural community with her mother, father and five siblings on land owned by her grandmother. Their very small house is made of adobe with a metal roof and dirt floor. Mayra’s father is employed as a bricklayer and travels miles to and from jobs on his bicycle. Despite his hard work, he doesn’t earn enough to support the basic needs of the family. Mayra likes to study, but finds it hard to study from home — she doesn’t have a table where she can sit and do her homework, so she uses a chair as a table.
